About
Sofia Farrell is a soprano who actively performs opera, classical, sacred, and musical theatre repertoire. Sofia graduated from the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied under the tutelage of Joan Patanaude-Yarnell.
In 2025, Sofia performed Micaëla in Carmen with the Vienna Opera Festival and appeared in recital at the historic Mozarthaus in Vienna. She also made her debut as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte in Croatia.
Highlights of the 2024 season include her role debut as Adina in L’elisir d’amore at the Cultural Conference Center of Heraklion, Crete, in collaboration with Teatro Grattacielo and the Athens Philharmonic as a Camerata Bardi Young Artist. That same summer, she sang Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro in Italy and Vitellia in La clemenza di Tito in Croatia’s first-ever staged production of the opera. Additional operatic credits include Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), The Beggar Woman (Sweeney Todd), and Liesl (cover, The Sound of Music).
During her academic career, Sofia performed Belinda (Dido and Aeneas) as well as excerpts of Manon (Manon, Massenet), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Maria (West Side Story), and Eileen Sherwood (Wonderful Town). She also appeared as Miss Andrew in an orchestral reading of Mary Poppins under the baton of James Dodgson of Disney Theatrical Group.
She has participated in masterclasses with artists including Stephanie Blythe, Delores Ziegler, Matthew Rose, Étienne Dupuis, and Karen Brunssen. Her dedication to the American song repertoire was recognized when she was selected for Blythe’s program The American Songbook for Classical Singers.
In addition to her operatic work, Sofia is deeply rooted in sacred music and has extensive experience as a cantor in the Catholic Church. Cantoring professionally since the age of 14, she received her foundation in liturgical music as a founding member of the Philadelphia Archdiocesan Children’s Choir. In 2016, Sofia was selected by Dr. John A. Romeri, former Music Director at Cathedral Basilica of SS Peter and Paul, to be the solo psalmist for the Festival of the Epiphany held at Saint Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.
An active cantor throughout the Philadelphia and surrounding archdioceses, Sofia sings regularly for Sunday masses, weddings, and funerals. Additionally, she is on the roster for the Philadelphia Orchestra’s Symphonic Choir for their upcoming seasons.
Sofia was a Young Artist Finalist in Opera Ebony’s 2023 Benjamin Matthews Vocal Competition. In the 2022 PHL LIVE Center Stage Music Competition run by the City of Philadelphia, she was selected to compete as one of five Classical Music Finalists.
